Dear Parents and Carers,
The school sports day is fast approaching and will be held on Tuesday 14th May.
As you will be aware, our playground space has been greatly reduced due to the building of our school extension. The grass areas where we would normally have the running lanes and circular track are now inaccessible. We have explored other options however, risk assessments have shown and logistics such as toilets have ruled this out.
Due to the above circumstances and lack of space which drives us to be more conscious of health and safety around the event, we have taken the decision to have the upper school, primaries 4-7, in the morning of Tuesday 14th between 9.30 and 12.00 and the lower primaries, P1-3 in the afternoon between 1.30 and 3.00.
The activities planned will mean that our sports day is more of a “potted sports” rather than a competitive event but we have ensured that every child will have an opportunity to compete in a sprint event.
As always, you are welcome to come along and be spectators on the day! We hope for good weather but in the event of a very wet day our reserve day is Friday 17th May where the times would be altered to 9.00 – 10.30 for upper primaries and then 11.00 -12.15 for lower.
We are sure that we will have your support and understanding around these arrangements given the conditions that we are working under.
Regards
Karen Hancock, Heather Galbucci and Brodie Abbott
European Parliamentary Election on Thursday 23 May 2019
In order to give you as much notice as possible, if the above elections go ahead on Thursday 23rd May, Cuiken will be used as a Polling Station and will be closed to all pupils.
We will let you know if there are any changes to this arrangement as soon as we are made aware of them.
Improving Learners Health and Wellbeing
One of our school priorities this session has been to develop a shared vision for our learners. A lot of consultation has taken place over the past 6 months and we are delighted with the outcome.
We are now looking to create a community mural at our front entrance so any visitor who has the pleasure of coming to Cuiken PS is in no doubt about the ethos we are creating here. Our art specialist, Miss Goodwin and learners will be involved in the design and creation of this mural and we would LOVE to have our grown-ups involved. We are sure there are many creative adults within the Cuiken Family!
If you are able to help on either of the dates below please contact the school.
Wednesday 27th March 9.30-12
Wednesday 3rd April 9.30-12
We look forward to seeing some of you soon.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Get set… we’re taking part in The Big Pedal 2019, the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooting challenge that inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school.
The challenge runs from 25th March to 29th March 2019. It’s free to enter and we would love everyone to be involved.
The details
On each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils, staff and parents cycling or scooting to school. We’ll be competing against other schools right across the UK, and if we clock up the most bike and scooter journeys we’ll win!
Why we’re taking part
It’s a great way to get more of our pupils travelling to school on their bikes and scooters. We will be competing to become one of the UK’s top schools for two-wheeled journeys and will be in with a chance to win prizes including bike and scooter stunt shows and fantastic cycle and scooter storage.
What’s next?
All you need to do is encourage your child(ren) to cycle or scoot to school every day during the event, and join them on their way – parent and sibling journeys count too!
For more information about the event go to www.bigpedal.org.uk
Please get in touch if you have any questions.
Enjoy the ride!
